Shadow improvements in Fallen Earth by Chris Babcock, Director of R&D

It's not a secret that I am a huge Fallen Earth fan, as are most of you.  It's a fantastic game with a truly inspiring team behind it.  So when I heard that Fallen Earth received yet another upgrade to the graphics system I jumped on the chance to hear more about it from Chris Babcock, Director of R&D, here is what he had to say about the recent shadow improvements. In real-time computer graphics, there are two widely used approaches to shadows for dynamic scenes.  The first is stencil shadows, requiring rendering of extruded object silhouettes and counting inside/outside parity to determine occupancy within the shadow volume...
